Leiter, Varitek Hand Zephyrs First Loss

Mark Leiter pitched very well and much better than his line score might indicate. He gave up a 2-run homerun to Cody Ransom in the 9th after throwing 8 2/3 innings of 3-run ball. Corpus Christi got the big hit from Jason Varitek after Fred McGriff was intentionally walked to load the bases. Varitek came up and crushed a homerun over the left field wall to give the Lightning Bolts a 6-3 lead at the time.

Mark Leiter tossed a complete game as the Corpus Christi Lightning Bolts
defeated the Oshkosh Zephyrs by the score of 7 to 5 at Labaonte
Field.
 
Leiter(1-1) delivered a fine performance for Corpus Christi.  He allowed 11
hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.  Oshkosh had a chance in the 9th but they came
up short.  
 
Jair Jurrjens(1-1) was the loser.  He allowed 5 runs and 4 hits in 5 and 1/3
innings.
