40,083 fans were treated to a fine game at Bow River Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Puget Sound Hydros won by the
slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.

Puget Sound wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 2
runs utilizing 2 base hits. Tim Raines led off and started the rally when he
slapped a single. Mario Valdez came to the plate and lined a one-base hit.
Wilson Betemit then drew a walk to load the bases. Brent Mayne came up and
he would ground out which scored a run. Chris Snelling came to the plate and
hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. Calgary made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

The win went to James Baldwin(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Mike Trombley gained credit for his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Joel
Pineiro(0-2). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 12 hits and 2 walks in 7
innings.

Calgary's manager was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one,
we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more
white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
