*Ortiz Pitched Well as Yogi's Win 6-3

The Yogi's improved to 6-4 by beating the now 5-5 Snipers. The Yogi's took a 6-0 lead through 7 1/2 frames and held on to win 6-3. The usual explosive offense wasn't there for the Yogi's, collecting just 10 hits, but had a timely homerun by Ray Brown early and added on with contributions from top to bottom in the lineup.

what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Baltimore
Engineers topped the Corpus Christi Lightning Bolts by a score of 9 to 1 at
B&O Field.

Hyzdu had a great evening at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every
move. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 2nd inning, belted a
three-run homer (his 9th of the season) in the 6th inning and banged out a
single plating two runs in the 8th inning. Baltimore banged out 8 hits on
the night.

Lopez(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Eric
Milton(1-1) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 5 and 1/3
innings of work.

'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Hyzdu said. 'We
played well together as a team.'

20 Runs Not Enough For Oshkosh

Oshkosh had a comfortable 20-10 lead going into the 9th, but the bullpen completely imploded. Clay Condrey faced 8 batters, walking 2 and giving up 5 hits, and all 7 of those runners scored. That tied the game. Rick Reed came in, but couldn't stop the bleeding either. Both teams had major heros. Hiram Bocachica set a major league record by knocking out 7 hits, going 7-7 with 5 runs scored. On the other side for Oshkosh, Nomar Garciaparra hit 2 homeruns, had 5 hits, and drove in 9 runs. Definitely a crazy game as Oshkosh pulled out a 23-20 win, and no, it isn't a football score.

Mario Valdez had 5 hits and 5 RBI and Mike Trombley closed it out for Puget
Sound as the Puget Sound Hydros staged a dramatic comeback over the Oshkosh
Zephyrs by a score of 23 to 20 at The Hangar.

Puget Sound bats came alive with a big 9th inning showing no mercy on Oshkosh
as they plated 13 runs on 12 hits. The key at-bat was by Valdez who
disappointed the partisan crowd when he doubled with all three runners coming
home. Puget Sound lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 6
hits and the 9th inning which saw them plate 13 runs on 12 hits. Despite
scoring in 7 separate innings, Oshkosh could not get the win.

The win was credited to Juan Salas(1-1) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Salas got help from Trombley who earned his 2nd save. The loss was
charged to Steve Reed(0-1) in relief.

After the game, it took a long while before Oshkosh's manager emerged from his
office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He
concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this
afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a
lot more light-hearted over in the Puget Sound locker room.'

*Emeralds Explode for 16 Runs and 22 Hits

Jorge Velandia stays hot with 4 more hits and 4 more RBI (giving him 9 RBI in the last 2 games, 11 in the last 3). Every Emerald had at least 2 hits and every Emerald had a run scored and an RBI except for Mark Little. Wellemeyer pitched well, but surrendered a two-out grand slam to Emil Brown. Emeralds just kept hitting, though, scoring in every inning except for the first and 8th.

Second baseman Jorge Velandia had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Eugene Emeralds
destroyed the struggling Halifax Hurricanes by a score of 16 to 6 at Windy
Stadium.

Velandia enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He stroked a base-hit in the
2nd inning, doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 5th inning, smashed a
two-run homer (his 2nd of the season) in the 6th inning and slapped a single
in the 8th inning. Eugene bats were hot in the 2nd inning when they had 4
runs on 6 hits and the 5th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits. The
Eugene offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The winning pitcher was Todd Wellemeyer(2-0) who allowed 5 runs in 5 innings.
John Van Benschoten(0-2) was tagged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 13 hits and 5 walks in 4 innings.

*Joe Kennedy Goes the Distance As Tega Cay Improves to 6-4

Joe Kennedy pitched a very solid 8 2/3 innings...before allowing a grand slam to the Big Hurt in the bottom of the 9th. It wasn't enough, though, as the Coyotes scored 11 times thanks to a 6 RBI day by Hollandsworth and Robin Jennings (the number 9 hitter) scoring 4 times.

Todd Hollandsworth had 3 base hits and 6 RBI and Joe Kennedy completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Tega Cay Coyotes outscored the
Astoria Ax Men 11 to 8.

Hollandsworth had a big day with his bat. He banged out a single resulting in
a run in the 2nd inning, slapped a one-base hit which was good for two runs
in the 5th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 7th inning.
Astoria had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Kennedy(1-1) who went the distance, allowing 8
runs. Edinson Volquez(1-1) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 9 hits
and 4 walks in 4 innings.

Astoria's manager was subdued when questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind
of loss takes a while to get over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've
been through this many times - it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine -
as for me - I'll be ready to go again tomorrow!'

Daric Barton launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Astoria Ax Men topped
the Yachats Yogi's by a score of 6 to 5 at J.R. Browning Dome.

Barton provided much of the offense. He hit a bases-empty home run in the 1st
inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 4th of the season) in
the 6th inning. Yachats threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Ryan Drese(3-0) got the win allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Dan Wheeler earned
the save, his 2nd. John Lannan(0-3) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Drese said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'

Chris Latham Hits for Cycle as Byrd Goes the Distance

Chris Latham hit a triple in the 1st and a double in the 2nd. Then, in the 7th, he hit a homerun to give him the three hardest parts of the cycle to get. However, it looked like he wouldn't get a chance as his team was winning by 6 runs and Paul Byrd was pitching lights out. However, his team really slapped around ace reliever Joba Chamberlain to give him a chance with 2 outs in the 8th. He pushed a hit in the 5-6 hole to complete the cycle. On the other side, Paul Byrd dominated. He retired the first 11 he face and didn't walk a hitter, striking out 10 to improve to 3-0.

Right fielder Chris Latham hit for the cycle and had 3 RBI and Paul Byrd
dominated striking out 10 Calgary batters as the Calgary Vipers were badly
beaten by the Moose Jaw Snipers, 12 to 1.

Latham enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He tripled in the 1st inning,
doubled plating a run in the 2nd inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 1st
of the season) in the 7th inning and stroked a base-hit in the 8th inning.
Moose Jaw rapped out 14 hits for the night.

The win went to Byrd(3-0) who allowed 1 run in the game. The loss was charged
to Joel Pineiro(0-3). He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6
innings.

When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Byrd offered, 'The fan's
really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up
there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy tonight - of course, it
would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

Emeralds belted the Puget Sound Hydros by the count of 16 to 1.

pond. in the 3rd inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 4th inning, doubled
knocking in a run in the 5th inning and doubled in the 7th inning. Eugene
kept the scorekeepers busy in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 4

Lugo Hits Cycle And Leads Bolts to 15-11 Slugfest

Julio Lugo hit for the cycle (same day that Stephen Drew and Adrian Beltre hit for the cycle in "real life") and drove in 5 in a crazy 15-11 game. There were 7 stolen bases, 6 home runs, and Oshkosh commited 4 errors. After 7 1/2 innings, the Bolts were up 15-3, but the Zephyrs stormed back with 8 runs in the last 3 innings, but still came up short. Steve Pearce hit a long fly ball that Ellsbury caught at the top of the wall with 2 men on to end the game.

Shortstop Julio Lugo hit for the cycle and had 5 RBI as the Corpus Christi
Lightning Bolts defeated the Oshkosh Zephyrs by the score of 15 to 11 at The
Hangar.

Lugo was a one-man wrecking crew. He doubled in the 1st inning, slapped a
one-base hit in the 4th inning, tripled bringing in two baserunners in the
5th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th
inning. Corpus Christi lit up the scoreboard in the 5th inning which saw
them plate 4 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on
4 hits. Oshkosh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Bobby Witt(2-1) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Jair Jurrjens(1-2)
suffered the loss. He allowed Corpus Christi 9 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of
work.

Oshkosh's manager was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the
press box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
