At J.R. Browning Dome the Yachats Yogi's easily handled the Astoria Ax Men by
the score of 8 to 4.

Yachats had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning when they had
3 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Matt Lecroy who
quieted the home crowd when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 3rd of the
season). Yachats had 14 hits for the night while Astoria had 11.

Mac Suzuki(1-1) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Steve
Karsay got the save, his 2nd. Chuck McElroy(0-1) absorbed the loss in
relief.









Patterson Slugs Homers in 7th and 9th to Beat Vipers




Geovany Soto and Jarrod Patterson combined to go 7-8 with 5 runs, 6 RBI, 2 doubles, and 3 homeruns to proved the offense of the Snipers. They hit back-to-back homers in the 7th to tie it up.

Jarrod Patterson smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Moose Jaw Snipers
pulled out a win over the Calgary Vipers by a score of 7 to 5 at Moose
Park.

Moose Jaw erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
on 2 hits. Geovany Soto opened up the inning nicely when he stroked a
base-hit. Patterson next to the plate and he popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 4th of the season) resulting in an exciting win for Moose Jaw and
a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Moose Jaw banged out
10 hits on the night.

Joel Zumaya(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Brian
Boehringer(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. 'It's almost like the ball
was trying to hit my bat,' Patterson said. 'Whenever I would swing, the ball
found the sweet spot.'

Mark Little had 2 base hits at Boeing Field as the Eugene Emeralds beat the
Puget Sound Hydros by the count of 5 to 4.

Eugene jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as they scored 2 runs
on 2 base hits. Puget Sound threatened in the 9th but Eugene was able to put
down the rally.

Kyle Davies(2-0) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Octavio Dotel
recorded the save, his 1st. Rick Reed(1-1) was hit with the loss. He was
unable to control the Eugene offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 6
innings.

'Some losses are harder to take than others' Puget Sound's manager lamented
after the game. 'This was one of them.'

Diving Catch by Bradley Saves Game for Engineers




Milton Bradley made an astounding diving catch to rob Todd Walker of at least a double to end the game. Had Walker made it to second, the Hurricanes would have slugger J.R. House come up as the winning run.

Adam Hyzdu had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Baltimore Engineers topped the reeling
Halifax Hurricanes by a score of 6 to 4 at Windy Stadium.

Hyzdu provided the offensive punch. He stroked a base-hit in the 1st inning,
doubled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the
park (his 6th of the season) in the 7th inning and delivered a single scoring
a run in the 8th inning. Baltimore had 14 hits for the night while Halifax
had 7.

Billy Buckner(1-0) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Buckner got help
from Akinori Otsuka who was credited with his 2nd save. Anibal Sanchez(0-2)
was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 8 hits and 5
walks.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Buckner, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Fred McGriff had 5 hits and 4 RBI as the Corpus Christi Lightning Bolts
destroyed the Oshkosh Zephyrs by a score of 12 to 2 at The Hangar.

McGriff enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He delivered a one-base hit
resulting in a run in the 1st inning, stroked a single which plated a run in
the 2nd inning, slapped a base-hit which scored a run in the 4th inning,
doubled scoring a run in the 6th inning and singled in the 7th inning.
Corpus Christi had 17 hits overall, while Oshkosh had 7.

Mark Leiter(2-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Sterling
Hitchcock(1-1) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around by Corpus

Flyers ballclub embarrassed the Eugene Emeralds by the count of 16 to

North Carolina drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first
inning when they scored 2 runs on 1 hit. The highlight belonged to Bret
Boone who disappointed the partisan crowd when he slapped a one-base hit
bringing in two baserunners. North Carolina kept the scorekeepers busy in
the 2nd inning with 9 runs on 8 hits and the 3rd inning which saw them plate
4 runs on 4 hits. North Carolina had 17 hits overall, while Eugene had 12.

Jeff Fassero(2-0) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Brett
Tomko(0-2) absorbed the loss. He allowed 8 runs and 6 hits in 1 and 1/3

Snipers Score Big Late, Yogi's Score Bigger




The first 6 innings were quite calm until Kevin Brown hit a 3-run homerun for the Snipers to give them a 5-2 lead. Yachats then scored 5 of their own to get a 7-5 lead. John Rocker came in the 8th to try and hold the lead, but allowed all 6 men he faced score, giving the Snipers an 11-7 lead. Finally, the Yogi's answered off of Ugueth Urbina and Hippolito Pichardo including a huge 3-run homerun by Victor Diaz and scored 5 times to give the Yogi's a 12-11 lead. Steve Karsay came in and struck out the side to secure the win.

Nomar Garciaparra touched them all and had 2 RBI at Wylie Stadium as the
Oshkosh Zephyrs staged a comeback win over the Tega Cay Coyotes by the count
of 9 to 7.

Oshkosh won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 3
hits. The highlight belonged to Tony Graffanino who disappointed the
partisan crowd when he doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond.
Oshkosh finished with 11 hits in the victory.

Clay Condrey(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Condrey was helped out by Henry Owens who recorded his 2nd save. John
Riedling(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was not very effective,
surrendering 5 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.

'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Garciaparra said. 'If you
just keep trying good things can happen!'








Baltimore Wins in 14-9 Slugfest




Baltimore scored 6 times in the 2nd and held a 7-2 lead entering the 6th. Calgary scored 4 times in the 6th to make it 7-6. However, Baltimore scored 7 runs in the next two innings to get a 14-6 advantage and hold on to win 14-9.

Milton Bradley connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI as the Baltimore
Engineers defeated the Calgary Vipers 14 to 9 at B&O Field.

Bradley helped send the fans home happy. He tripled in the 1st inning, lofted
a three-run 'big-fly' (his 3rd of the season) in the 2nd inning and stroked a
single which plated a run in the 6th inning. Baltimore had 17 hits for the
game and Calgary had 14.

The winning pitcher was Tom Shearn(1-1) who allowed 6 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. Nick Bierbrodt(0-2) took the loss. He allowed a few too many

Rob Mackowiak left the yard and had 5 RBI as the Puget Sound Hydros clobbered
the outmatched Halifax Hurricanes, 19 to 4.

The Puget Sound fans enjoyed the offense provided by Mackowiak. He doubled
which was good for two runs in the 2nd inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his
1st of the season) in the 6th inning and singled knocking in a run in the 7th
inning. Puget Sound bats were very productive in the 1st inning with 6 runs
on 5 hits and the 7th inning with 4 runs on 5 hits. The Puget Sound offense
poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

James Baldwin(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 6 and 1/3
innings. Tim Drew(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 1/3 of an inning
allowing 4 hits and 2 walks.









Lightning Bolts Stikes Early

Jacoby Ellsbury had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Corpus Christi Lightning
Bolts defeated the Astoria Ax Men by the score of 10 to 7 at Labaonte
Field.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning Corpus Christi scored 6 runs when they had 4
base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Luis Castillo who
electrified Labaonte Field when he lined a single which was good for two
runs. The Astoria offense proved no trouble in the 9th.

Joey Hamilton(1-1) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Mike
Buddie earned the save, his 3rd. Adam Loewen(0-2) was the loser. He
surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Angel Berroa had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the Eugene Emeralds defeated the Tega Cay
Coyotes by a score of 15 to 8 at Civic Stadium.

Berroa enjoyed a big day at the plate. He smacked a single in the 1st inning,
delivered a one-base hit scoring two baserunners in the 3rd inning, hit a
single scoring two baserunners in the 6th inning and lashed a single knocking
in a run in the 7th inning. Eugene kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st
inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits and the 3rd inning when they had 4 runs
on 4 hits. Eugene ended up with 18 hits for the game while Tega Cay had 9.

Todd Wellemeyer(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory.
Joe Kennedy(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around by Eugene,
allowing 8 hits and 4 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.









Craig Wilson and Franklin Morales Lift Vipers in 7-2 Win Over Hurricanes




Craig Wilson's 4th homerun of the season was a big grand slam for the home team Vipers and the Morales improved to 2-0 on the season. He has both of the Vipers wins this year.

Craig Wilson cleared three ducks from a very crowded pond with a grand slam at
Bow River Stadium as the Calgary Vipers beat the Halifax Hurricanes 7 to
2.

Franklin Morales(2-0) was solid if not spectacular. He was reached for 9 hits
and 3 walks in 6 innings lowering his ERA to 3.95. Both teams finished the
game with 11 hits.

Morales was helped out by Bob Wickman who recorded his 1st save. Garrett
Olson(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good,
