It was an exciting evening game in Berra Stadium where the Astoria Ax Men
finally out-lasted the Yachats Yogi's by a score of 13 to 11 in a
affair.

Daric Barton provided the offensive punch. He doubled plating all three
baserunners in the 6th inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run (his 1st of the season) in the 8th inning. Astoria managed 11 hits
in their victory.

Ryan Drese(1-0) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Troy
Percival got the save, his 1st. John Lannan(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He
was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Astoria's manager said after the game. 'Drese did not have
command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
